CONstruction (IS-SusCon) project

Promoting life cycle assessment (LCA) and LCA-related environmental information to
consumers to let them make sustainable choices when they build or renovate houses.

Most people have very limited knowledge of environmental impacts and their causes. The project would like to fill this gap by means of online and offline education materials. These should be easy to use and understand to improve users’ background knowledge and environmental awareness. The content will include easy-to-read concept descriptions, practical examples for non-experts, suggestions, best practices and even potential cost-saving solutions.

Objectives

• education and data collection: the construction materials available on the market and their properties from a sustainability perspective
• collection of innovative best practices in construction
• strengthening the environmental awareness of man in the street by promoting life cycle thinking

Expected results

• Handbook containing practical advice for sustainable houses and renovation
• Webapp that includes environmental, technical data and market information for different building materials

Target audience

The main target group is the civil population, young adults interested and visiting housing events and webpages, the man of the street, who is interested in building or renovating a house. Personal contact building with the representatives of different organisations, e.g.: local governments, chambers, NGOs and designers by mapping key stakeholders who can be engaged in building environmental awareness.
